We are passing through a period in
American history that can only be described as intellectually and culturally
oppressive. The political left all but owns the mainstream media, the
university, and the entertainment world. For this reason, the message of big
government and collectivist ideology is heard from every corner of society, and
dissenting voices are suppressed through peer pressure, social ostracism, or in
being ignored (i.e., not reported in the media).
As historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr.
points out in his book, Multiculturalism, the Disuniting of
Assaults on the Confederate flag and
the Southern Confederacy have been increasing in both their scope and
intensity. Recently, the NAACP has called for a boycott of South Carolina for
flying the Confederate flag over the state house, and have called for similar
boycotts of Georgia and Mississippi for having Confederate flags incorporated
into their state flags. The NAACP has also called for the removal of plaques in Texas that memorialize the
Confederacy. Unfortunately, they were successful in most of these efforts.
Journalists and opportunistic
politicians have jumped on the bandwagon, and editorials are appearing in
newspapers all across the country, first to demand the removal of all
Confederate symbols from public display, and second, to disparage and vilify the
Confederate States of America.
We are appalled at the ignorance and
animosity expressed in editorials, commentary and in letters to the editor. The
purpose of this website is to fight that ignorance and animosity with historical
facts and rebuttals that are hard to find elsewhere. We hope that this website
will be used as a source of alternative information for researchers, whether
they be journalists, politicians, students or private
citizens.
